Frequently Asked Questions - The Nutcracker

Act 1

The Nutcracker takes place on Christmas Eve at the Stahlbaum’s Christmas party. Clara receives a beautiful nutcracker from her great uncle, Drosselmeyer. Clara falls asleep that night, only to wake up to giant rats in the living room! The rats, led by Queen Mouserink, battle against the toy soldiers who have come to life, guided by the now life-size nutcracker. After the battle is won and the rats are defeated, the nutcracker transforms from a wooden doll into the Nutcracker Prince. He whisks Clara away to the Land of Snow, where a blizzard of snowflakes dances across the stage.

Act 2

Clara and the Nutcracker Prince arrive in the Kingdom of Sweets, where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. The Sweets perform dances for Clara and the Nutcracker Prince, each representing a different country: Chocolate from Spain, Coffee from Arabia, Tea from China, Peppermint from Russia, and Marzipan from France. After a magical visit to the Kingdom of Sweets, Clara wakes up to find it was all just a dream…or was it?
